A Weekend of Surprises

Yes, I realize it is now Wednesday. I've been trying to get this post done since Sunday! Blogging is a little more difficult since Hudson came along. We had a fun weekend in Gadsden with family and friends. My sister-in-law, father-in-law, mother and I have been planning a surprise 50th birthday party for my mother-in-law for months. We decided we were going to do it some time last year!! I have to give full credit for the decor to my sweet mother. She took all of it over for me since I have been pretty consumed with other things....like a baby!! I owe her big time for all she did. It turned out beautiful and we all appreciate her hard work so much!! My mother-in-law is always doing for others and rarely takes time for herself so we wanted her 50th to be extra special. It was definitely something she'll never forget!!

We had the party at the Fishmarket in Gadsden. It overlooks the river and was a beautiful place to have it. The staff was so accommodating and set up a big area in the back for us. We had a great view, especially as the sun set. The plan was for Joseph's parents to meet us there for her birthday dinner. We told her were going to be down to go see my grandparents anyway, and we wanted to take her out, since we didn't get to see her on her actual birthday, which was Wednesday. She thought it was just going to be Joseph, Hudson, and myself. To say she was surprised would be an understatement. She was floored! We got her good. The look on her face was priceless...I wish I would have had someone take a picture of the surprise with my camera, but I didn't think about it. She had about 70 of her closest friends and family there to celebrate with her. It was a wonderful night and it was great to have everyone together for her big birthday.

Here are a few pictures from the party.

The cake was made by a friend of Priscilla's. It was beautiful and delicious. My mom had already started cutting it by the time I got to take a picture...hence the poor little ribbon missing.

The title of this post says "Surprises"....well, not only did we surprise Priscilla with her party....my brother-in-law, Adam, had a surprise of his own.

He proposed to his girlfriend, Kerrie!!

She said yes, by the way!! ;-)

Heeeeyyy

You can't really tell from the picture, but that's a ROCK!! He done good! ;)
I love how insanely happy they look in this picture!! Those smiles say it all!
I am SO happy for them. Kerrie is an awesome girl and she and Adam are just perfect for each other! They make each other so happy!

And I leave you with a few last pictures.....

1 Month!

Hudson you are ONE MONTH OLD today!! Where have the last 30 days gone?!?! It seems like we were just meeting you for the first time in the hospital and here you are...a whole month old! I feel like I'm not supposed to call you a newborn anymore, and that makes me sad. You have changed so much since you were born. You keep getting more and more handsome! ;)
By our home scale, you weigh 9.4 lbs!
You're in 0-3 months clothes, but some things are getting tight, especially length-wise.
You are barely hanging on to size newborn diapers. Ones are right around the corner...you've worn them a couple of times and they fit pretty well.
You love to eat, and usually eat around 4 ounces at a feeding, every 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
You were still 21 inches long at your last doctor appointment, but I have a feeling you've grown since then. You're definitely starting to fill out.
You have long fingers and toes, and big feet!!
You still have dark blue/slate gray eyes but it seems that your hair has gotten slightly darker.
You love being cuddled, especially on our chests. It's your favorite place to be, especially to fall asleep.
You like to sleep in the napper on your pack n' play, but you also enjoy napping (supervised) on your lounger.
You love to sleep with your arms up by your head.
You're sometimes a noisy sleeper. You grunt and stretch a lot. Sometimes you sound like a pterodactyl!! I would say it's a little annoying, but that would be ugly of me, wouldn't it!?! HA!
Your daddy and I think you'll be an early crawler/walker. You are constantly trying to push up on your legs to get somewhere. Your legs are always moving and kicking.
You can get pretty gassy (sorry, son!), but Mylicon makes you feel so much better!
You are also holding your head up very well and I'm pretty sure it won't be too long before you are holding it up like a pro!
Right now you're sleeping in about 2 1/2 to 3 hour stretches. If you'd like to lengthen those, that'd be great! ;)
You nap on and off throughout the day, but you are also very alert and observant.
You're able to see mommy and daddy much better now and stare at us a lot. You also like to look at the ceiling fan.
You've done very well on our outings so far and usually stay asleep the whole time.
You're not too sure about your swing. Sometimes you like it, sometimes you're ready to get out after about 10 minutes.
You LOVE your newborn lounger, though.
You hate being restricted, therefore, you are not swaddled. You love to have your feet and arms free.
You make some pretty funny faces.
I love when you smile and laugh, even though it's still involuntary at this point.
You love car rides and always fall right to sleep as soon as we leave the house...if not before!
You are a happy baby...unless you're hungry, tired, or naked (sometimes).
You hated sponge baths, but now that you can take a real bath, you like them more and more every time you get one.
You're not a fan of lotion time or diaper changes, and you don't appreciate being exposed. (I think you're modest like your mama!)

Your daddy and I love you more than words can say and we are so glad God blessed us with you. We would move mountains for you! It's hard to remember life without you. We can't wait to see how you change and grow over the next several months and years. We are SO proud to be your parents!!!

(Here are a few more pictures from our photoshoot today...he was not interested in it AT ALL!)

Y'all have a great weekend!!!

Mother's Day Weekend

We had a very low-key Mother's Day weekend. Saturday, Joseph's parents and sister came over and we cooked out. We enjoyed spending a few hours with them, and they enjoyed getting some Hudson time! :) We laid around the rest of the evening after they left and even got to take a little nap. Sunday, we had a very quiet morning.....it's not like you can do too much with a 2 1/2 week old. However, we did decide to get out for a quick outing Sunday afternoon. I needed to get out of the house and we needed some groceries, so we made a quick trip to the mall and to Publix. Hudson did great and slept the whole time.

He loves his carseat!
I mostly just wanted to get out and about since I've been cooped up in the house for weeks now. My hubby treated me to a few things while we were out. I got a pretty new dress, and these bad boys...

I love a beautiful pair of heels and I haven't worn any in MONTHS and I can't wait to get dressed up and wear these things to a wedding or 2 this Summer!! They're so pretty, and they're nude so they'll go with a lot! (which made Joseph feel better about the price tag...they weren't that bad, FYI) I also got some much needed Spanx..for the dress, and just to make myself feel better while I'm losing the pregnancy weight. I've never had Spanx before and am excited to try them out! After our quick mall outing, we picked up a few things at Publix and headed home. It was nice to get out in the real world again for a little while. ;-) I missed seeing my mom on Mother's Day, but I'm glad I got to spend so much time with her last week when we were staying with them due to the power outage from the storms. I have the best mother (& father) in the entire world and I truly don't know where I'd be without her. I feel so blessed to have her in my life.

Today we had Hudson's 2 week checkup (even though he'll be 3 weeks old in 2 days!). It went great! He has surpassed his birth weight and now weighs in at 8 lbs. 11 oz. His birth weight was 8 lbs. 3 oz. Not too shabby! It makes me feel relieved to know he's getting enough to eat! The boy's a hog, but I sometimes worry he's not getting enough. Well, I'm no longer worrying. ;) The doctor was very pleased with his growth and weight gain and said he's one healthy boy! We go back in June for his 2 month checkup. I'm dreading those shots!! :(

I hope y'all had a fantastic Mother's Day weekend, whether you're a mother or not! My first Mother's Day wasn't filled with tons of excitement, but it was filled with tons of time spent with the two men who made me a mother...and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I love these two more than anything!!
