January Birchbox

I have to say, I'm not too happy that it's January 23rd and my Birchbox just got here yesterday. It's usually here before the 15th, so that's a little irritating, especially since it debited my card back on like the 7th, or before. I'm going to see how next month works out, and decide if I keep this subscription or not.

Anyway, let's check out this month's box.

1. My/Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer - I don't know how I'll like this, because moisturizers tend to be way too oily for my already combination/oily skin. However, since it is Winter, this might be good for the dry parts of my face.

2. Frownies/Rose Water Hydrator Spray - I'm really not sure what this will do for me. It says it's a two-in-one toner and hydrating mist to balance pH levels. Umm, OK. You also spritz the eye gels down with this stuff to keep them fresh for a few more uses.

3. Frownies/Eye Gels - I'm anxious to try these out and see how they help out my dark circles. Sister could use all the help she can get! If kept fresh by spritzing them with the hydrator spray, you can put them back in their tray, into a plastic baggy, then into the fridge for 2-3 additional uses.

4. Juicy Couture/Viva La Juicy - I'm pretty sure I've gotten every Juicy Couture sample known to man and I'm good to go now. This smells nice but I like La Fleur better, which is why I got the full-size version for Christmas. I'm hoping if I tweak my Birchbox profile a little, I can stop the frequency of these perfume samples. They're getting a little old.

5. theBalm cosmetics/Put a Lid On It Eyelid Primer - This could be great for priming the lids before applying my Urban Decay Naked palette. Even though it stays on BEAUTIFULLY by itself, it doesn't hurt to try this out with it. I love a good primer. Makes everything go on a little better and easier.

Upon looking at the value of this month's box, I did find that the Frownies Eye Gels are sold in a set of 3 for $29.95. That puts this single set at just about $10 by itself, the cost of the monthly subscription to Birchbox. The perfume sample is something I can get at a fragrance counter for free but it's probably worth $1-2 on its own, I guess? The other samples are so small (I'm talking like .1 oz small) so I won't value them at more than a couple bucks each as well. I'd probably value this box at about $15-$20?? So, you're getting the money you spent on the month's subscription in these products, but the value is nothing to get excited about.

If you want to learn more about Birchbox, you can go here.

I'll see how I feel about the timeliness of next month's box's delivery, as well as its contents, then decide if I want to keep this monthly subscription. I'm thinking about trying out Ipsy or another similar box. Have any of you tried out other boxes that you recommend?

  2. Those eye gels look really neat. Let us know if they work! I was getting the Birchbox but ended up stopping it because some of the samples, were a little "out there" for me...Like these huge cat eyeliner stickers I got one month that I can only imagine someone might wear for Halloween. I hope your next month box is better though!! :)
