Family Beach Trip 2011

We had a great time on our first vacation as a family of 3! It was so nice to get away from the day-to-day with my boys and just relax, enjoy the sun, water, good food, and quality time.

We got to Destin Saturday evening, then had to do our usual Walmart shopping and just grabbed a quick sandwich. Sunday we hit the beach for a little while and boy was it hot!?!?! Hudson took shelter under the huge umbrella we rented for the day, and relaxed with his fan blowing on him. He slept pretty much the entire time we were out there.

Rockin' his beach hat. He was too cute! He was too interested in his surroundings to focus on the camera.

"Gah, Dad, lemme down so I can play!"

"Not too sure about this, Dad....."

Love this picture of the water washing up on him! :-)

Getting ready for a nice beach nap.

We moved the "party" into the indoor pool so we wouldn't have to worry about him getting burnt in the outdoor one. He was a little skeptical at first.....love that face...that is SO a face I would make when I was younger.

Daddy comforted him when he got a little upset. Love this picture!

"Hmmm, maybe this whole pool thing isn't SO bad...."

"Or maybe it is!"

"OK, this is kinda fun."

"Mommy, I think I like it!"

"You crazy, Mom...."

Ready to go eat at The Crab Trap Monday night.

My little swimmer and me. He's going to learn to love the water like I did when I was little. I learned to swim at our hotel pool in Panama City when I was young! :)

Finally smiling for the camera!

My two men! Love them!

"Lemme help you, Dad."

Exhausted....he wasn't too excited about the crab-legs I guess.

The Triple Crab Combo BEFORE.....

Joseph owning those crab-legs.

What remained of the feast! Yeah, we ate a LOT of crab! It was delish too!

I didn't really take as many pictures as I wanted to, and I didn't get any of all 3 of us. I guess I'm not comfortable handing my thousand dollar camera to a perfect stranger! We did get some professional portraits made Sunday on the beach at sunset though and I'm anxious to see how they turned out. This trip was a last-minute thing so most photographers were all booked, but one lady had just cancelled a trip and opened up some dates. Unfortunately, she doesn't offer the things the other ones did (you just pay a session fee, then have to pay for any pictures you get...even digital ones, separately) so I'm not sure how many pictures we'll actually get...if any. They are pretty pricey and I will honestly not use her again, nor will I refer her. She was nice and I'm sure she does good work, but she's not competitive with other photographers and what they offer along with their fee. I won't mention her or her company's name. Before pictures we ate at The Back Porch and enjoyed delicious food and a beautiful view. They make excellent crabcakes and the grilled grouper is delish!

On Tuesday, we decided that since our "suntans" hurt that we would take a break from the sun and go out for lunch and then walk around the Destin Commons to do some window-shopping and get some ice cream. We went to Dewey Destin's for lunch and had delicious gumbo, crab claws, and grouper and shrimp sandwiches. We laid around the rest of the day and for our last night we stayed in and ordered Mellow Mushroom. We got the Kosmic Karma and it is my new fave!! SO GOOD!

Now that the vacation is over, I can go back to eating healthy and trying to lose more of this weight. 'Cause let's face it....dieting on vacation is NOT an option! ;-) We made some great memories as a family and I can't wait to make many more!

  1. You have a beautiful family. I just love the picture of your son in the water. He's so cute. I'd love it if you come over to my blog and checked it out. Perhaps even become a follower. Have a great day.
